Some 15 participants took part in the Fishery Product Diversification Training at the Amiterdam RPTRA, Untung Jawa Island Urban Village, South Seribu Islands Sub-district.

We want participants to understand the theory of good fish processing methods

The training participants initiated by the Seribu Islands Food Security, Maritime and Fisheries Sub-agency (KPKP) were coached business actors, PKK cadres, Dasa Wisma, Jumantik, and RPTRA administrators.

Seribu Islands KPKP Sub-agency's Fishery Section Head, Pisuko Herawati said the training aims to increase the consumption of processed fish food for the Seribu Islands community, as well as being an effort to prevent and reduce stunting.

"We want participants to understand the theory of good fish processing methods by applying the principles of sanitation and hygiene in food processing. Thus, they can produce healthy and nutritious processed food," she expressed, Monday (7/15).

She explained there were two speakers from the Research Center for Marine and Fisheries Product Processing and Biotechnology and Ministry of Maritime and Fishery. They were namely Dr Suryanti and Hasta Octavani.

"The menu items given vary from fish nuggets, meatballs, fish chips, and others," she explained.

She hoped that it could create a small home industry (home industry) processing seafood so that it could provide a variety of processed products while increasing the income of coastal communities.

"Participants are given fishery processing facilities in the form of a Food Processor. Hopefully, the knowledge they receive can provide added value to improve and become more prosperous," she hoped.

The training received appreciation from Untung Jawa Island Urban Village Head, Sidartawan.

"I appreciate and thank you. Hopefully, they can apply this knowledge in their own homes," he explained.

One of the training participants from Untung Jawa Island Urban Village Dasa Wisma, Isah (38) admitted she was happy to participate in training in cooking processed fish held by the Seribu Islands KPKP Sub-agency.

According to her, the training provided was very useful and could add knowledge and new menus in cooking processed fish. Moreover, fish contains omega which can help children's development.

"The cook was very skilled and clear during the cooking demonstration. We were also taught to make fish steaks which the children liked. I hope this activity can be sustainable," she closed.
